When Tom and I met in 1997, he was working in the HVAC (Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning) field all his life. He worked incredibly long hours and usually came home frustrated and exhausted. As a creative outlet, I suggested he take a Jewelry course with me. He was very creative and experienced in metal working from his job, so I thought he would enjoy it. It would be a good hobby that we could do together.

After taking a 6-week course, a spark was ignited in Tom that had him making incredible jewelry. He worked day and night on his pieces and eventually, we invested in some equipment and built a workshop. Silversmithing had become his passion and for the first time, I saw him incredibly happy.

For our wedding in 1999, I could not find a headpiece that matched my dress. I wanted something special, preferably hand made with an antique feel. Nothing popped up. Tom decided that, as his gift to me, he would make my tiara. It was a gift that changed our lives.

Shortly after returning from a beautiful honeymoon in Greece & Turkey, we found out that I was pregnant. It was always our plan that when we started a family, one of us would stay home and raise our child. That April, Tom decided he would stay home and raise our baby while he began to build our business Thomas Knoell Designs, Inc.

In October 2003, we unveiled our Couture Accessories Boutique in Manhasset, N.Y. We are the only premier headpiece custom design studio on Long Island. We offer a unique service for our clients, where the brides and their bridal party can meet directly with Tom to create completely custom designs.

Today, Thomas Knoell Designs, Inc. is a successful business that is rapidly growing. We have been featured on NBC’s Today Show and News 12 Long Island. Pieces from our collections have regularly appeared in Martha Stewart Weddings, The Knot Wedding Gowns, Manhattan Bride, Modern Bride and INStyle Weddings. Brides can now find our pieces in stores across the US.

In addition to a growing business, we have a growing family! Our son Kyle is 5 and has just started Kindergarten. What a big boy he is, I can't believe it. Just to think we started this business when he was just a baby. Summer Rose is now 3 years old and ready to conquer the world. She just started Nursery School and already has her daddy wrapped around her finger. On August 5th, we were blessed with our 3rd child, baby Juliet Maria. She is beautiful, healthy and definitely our good luck charm. As a mother of 3, a wife, and a business owner certainly has its challenges. But that's what life is all about for me-hard work, family and love.

Love was Tom’s inspiration in creating his first headpiece, the Raquel Tiara. It’s that love and pride in what he creates that inspires him to create beautiful and unique headpieces for brides today.
